This is the video of todays episode "The four core values". Below the video I have the whole episode in text form for those who want to discuss it in here.
In GoL each character card has the four core values: Attack
Defense Movement
Range Attack
The attack value of a unit. The values symbol depends on the battle class of the respective character. The battle classes will be explained in detail in another episode. In order to destroy enemy units, the attack value of a single card or the total attack of several cards must be higher than the defense value of the defending card.
Defense
The defense value of a unit. It is symbolized by a shield. Cards with a high defense value give you stability and protection in the neutral zone and provide the opportunity to gain control over important positions.
Movement The movement value of a unit. This value tells you how many hexagons the card can move. It is symbolized by a footprint. The maximum movement value is 3. Cards with a movement value of 2 or 3 give you high flexibility on the battlefield and thus open up many options for your moves.
Range The range value of a unit. This value tells you how far a card can attack. It is symbolized by three blue lines. As with the movement value, the maximum range value is 3. Cards with a range value of 2 or 3 help you to control the battlefield. Distance management is an important factor for victory.
We have focused on making the races different in their playability. Based on their living conditions and physical characteristics, they have different strengths and weaknesses, which affect the 4 core values. However, the difference is often not immediately apparent from individual cards, since each race has diverse and different characters. The influence of the unique characteristics of the race is hidden in their average values. The differences can be clearly felt when playing.
The Nordur - Due to their living conditions, the Nordur are very robust and well trained in hunting. They deal considerable amount of damage with all kinds of weapons. Often times these large man and women lack mobility. Basically, they are more or less average everywhere. None of their values are exceptionally high or low.
The Naphas - The Naphas are extremely resistant to all types of poison and illness. Furthermore, most of them wear silver and gold armor above their scales, which makes them very hard to overcome but also quite slow. Compared to the other races the Naphas form large troops fairly rare. Therefore, their average defense value is higher than that of the other races, but in return they lack troop strength and mobility.
The Tagari - They are characterized by high agility. Mostly they operate in small but very well coordinated packs. In order not to limit their naturally given properties, they forego most of the heavy armors, which makes them more vulnerable than other races. This means there average movement value is higher and they form smaller troops but they lack defense.
The Arachnids - In terms of troop strength they outshine all the other races by ease. Even though they are not as robust and strong as many other races, their mobility and willingness to make sacrifices gets underrated often. This means that they can build larger troops and have a higher average movement value. But they lack a bit of attack and defense.
This was the first part of the gameplay-series. Next week I will show you more about Troop-Strength. What do you guys think about this episode? Let us know in the comment section :).
